Frequently asked questions
What are the cup and the teats made of?
After looking at the materials available, the Happymami cup and teat are made from high-grade silicone. It goes through strict checks and is certified by Intertek to European rules.
Because it is silicone, not plastic, the bottle is safe for your baby: no BPA, and none of the other substances often found in plastic bottles. If the cup is dropped, it does not shatter the way glass does.
Do all the teats have an anti-colic system?
Yes. Wind and colic are very common at this stage, so every teat, whatever the design, has a double anti-colic system built into the teat itself. It works in any position, nothing has to be taken apart, and it does not need a special brush.
Which bottle warmers work with the Happymami bottle?
What matters is the size. The base of the bottle is 8.3 cm across. Measure the opening of your warmer to see if it fits.
How do I know if my design is right?
Designing the bottle is a guided, one-to-one process. Each step explains what to choose. If you are unsure, a few questions point you to the design that fits. You can also reach midwives on WhatsApp. When a mother checks her design with us afterwards, it is almost always the same one she had already made. Trust yourself. If a doubt comes up, we are here.

Can I use a microwave with Happymami bottles?
Yes. The bottles are microwave safe. The maximum temperature is 180 °C for the cup and teat, and 120 °C for rings and caps. If you use steam bags, follow the maker's instructions.
We do not recommend heating milk in the microwave. It does not heat evenly, and studies suggest it can change the nutritional value of breast milk or formula.
Can I wash Happymami bottles in the dishwasher?
Yes. Put them on the top rack, away from the heating element.
The cup has a wide opening, so it is also easy to wash by hand.
Which sterilisers work with Happymami bottles?
You do not need to sterilise the bottle, and boiling it is not essential. Wash the bottle and teat like the rest of the dishes, by hand or in the dishwasher, with soap and water, and no milk left behind. That is the current advice from the Spanish paediatric association, AEPED.
We explain it in this Instagram post.
How often should bottles be sterilised?
There are many opinions. Following the WHO and AEPED, we do not see a need to sterilise the bottle or to boil it. Wash it like the rest of the dishes, by hand or in a machine, with no milk left behind.
We explain it in this Instagram post.
Can I buy spare caps or rings?
They are not sold separately at the moment. If a piece is missing because something went wrong, write to info@happymami.com and we will help.
How often should I replace the teats and the cup?
The silicone in the teats and the cup is high quality, and how long it lasts depends on use. We suggest at least 2 teats for each flow stage, replaced every 2 months. Four per stage is ideal.
For hygiene, replace a teat after 4 to 8 weeks, or sooner if it shows wear. The stages are 0-3 months (slow flow), 3-6 months (medium flow) and over 6 months (fast flow).
If two teats or a change every two months is not possible, the silicone still stands up to heavy use. For the cup, we suggest at least 2 per stage.
Are Happymami bottles only for breastfed babies?
They also work with formula, cereals and purées. Choose the flow that matches your baby's age.
Should I use a slower flow so my baby keeps breastfeeding?
That idea is widespread, and we do not share it.
To design Happymami we looked at breastfeeding as a whole: let-down, flow at each stage, how a baby sucks, and what the baby needs.
If your baby is 4 months old and you use a flow meant for 2 months, the greater risk is that they refuse the bottle.
Use the flow for their age, and the guidance we send with the order, so the bottle is accepted without affecting your breastfeeding.
